A visit to Morro Bay CA has to involve a bit of shopping on the boardwalk. Take a stroll along the shops and restaurants that sit right over the water. Watch the ships come in and out. Perhaps you may even see a sea lion swim by. One or two usually hang around to help the local fishermen with their excess. Or perhaps you may choose to have a luxurious Champaign brunch on the Tiger's Folley paddleboat while touring Morro Bay CA. (This is a truly unique experience.) Hang around long enough and you will want to call this home. show/hide mapThe most visible and well-known landmark is Morro Rock. This huge rock stands nearly 600 feet high in the middle of Morro Bay and is the inspiration of many local artist's paintings and photographs. This is one of nine extinct volcanos that run for 12 miles from Morro Bay CA to San Luis Obispo CA. This majestic landmark is also the home of peregrine falcons. We are blessed in Morro Bay with being able to see these once endangered species throughout the year.
Another place you can't miss is the Morro Bay Estuary. This is one of the largest coastal wetland preserves and contains a unique environment of fresh creek water mixing with sea water in varying temperatures. The mudflats and marshes provide a home to a wide variety of wildlife including migrating egrets, terns, pelicans, kingfishers and great blue herons.
The Embarcadero by the bay provides a port to a commercial fishing fleet and a wonderful mix of specialty shops, fish markets, galleries, and restaurants.
Kayaking in the Morro Bay estuary is one of the many popular activities for the locals and tourist alike. You can find ducks, snowy egrets, pelicans, and a variety of wading birds during your excursion. Whether you like to shop, golf, hike, or do boating, Morro Bay CA has something for everyone.
A popular regular attraction is the weekly farmer's market at Spenser's Fresh Market on Thursdays, 3:00 - 5:00.
